Haikyuu!! has overwhelming success with his new film

Media outlets in Japan reported that "Haikyuu!!: Gomisuteba no Kessen (Haikyu!!: Battle of the Garbage Dump)," the new film in the "Haikyuu!!" franchise, debuted to overwhelming success on its first day in theaters in Japan. The film reportedly grossed around 890 million yen (over US$5.92 million).

This figure alone places this new film in the fourth position in the ranking of first-day earnings in the entire history of cinema in Japan, only behind "Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen" (1269 million yen); "ONE PIECE FILM RED" (1.232 BILLION YEN); and "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" (1072 million yen). While above other hits like "Youkai Watch Movie 1: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan!" (874 million yen); "Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine" (859 million yen) and "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" (803 million yen).

It should be recalled that this film is the first of the two-part film project, "Haikyuu! Final," which will apparently adapt the remaining original manga content, implying around 110 chapters. Evidently, fans assume that two films will be insufficient to adequately cover such a large number of chapters of the manga, so the content could be extremely summarized if the production team really intends to end the adaptation with these two films.

Haruichi Furudate began publishing the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2012 and finished it in July 2020, with the publisher compiling the work into a total of forty-five compilation volumes. Four seasons of the animated adaptation of the project have been produced to date, accumulating a total of eighty-five episodes.

Takahiro Kishida (Durarara!!, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Btooom!) is in charge of character design, while Takahiro Chiba (Kimi no Na Wa., Psycho-Pass, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo) is in charge of animation direction.
Yuuki Hayashi (Boku no Hero Academia, Death Parade, Kiznaiver) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Haikyuu!!

Shouyou Hinata started playing volleyball after seeing the "little giants" playing the sport when she was in elementary school. He suffers a crushing defeat in his first and final tournament in high school at the hands of rival Tobio Kageyama. So, Hinata joins the Karasuno High School volleyball team, vowing revenge against Kageyama. However, Kageyama is also on Karasuno's team. The former rivals form a legendary combo with Hinata's mobility and Kageyama's precise ball handling. Together, they take on local tournaments and pledge to take on rival Karasuno school at nationals.
